In an effort to share some thoughts about our profession we asked our team at PRIME a few questions about marketing and design and collected their answers. Our team ranges from experts on marketing strategy to graphic designers, so each answer is different. We thought this would be an interesting way to share different perspectives on a variety of topics.

These are the responses.

Question: What's one thing business owners should know about marketing and design?

Jason Johnson answers:

Projects will be more successful if business owners are an integral part of the project and communicate with their marketing agency. Business owners are the experts at their profession, and if they choose an agency that is a good personality fit for them, having two entities that are experts working together will lead to great things.

Gregg alexander ANSWERS:

One thing that we frequently find when sitting down with prospective clients is that they either don’t have any specific goals in mind or they don’t know how to go about creating goals. They understand there are certain pieces they need to have in place to market their company but they don’t quite understand how marketing should impact their business. From a digital marketing perspective, they know they need to have social media, and they need to rank well on Google, but they don’t know understand how they that social media should be a tool to accomplish something specific and that ranking well on Google doesn’t necessarily translate to business growth. Yes, a top ranking in Google would help bring more people to your website, but there is a step or two in between an increase in traffic and the bottom line. So I believe that business owners should know they should set goals that are specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, time-based, and will impact your business growth.

Ben Fjare ANSWERS:

It's not about you. It's a mistake too many people make when creating their message. The true purpose is to show the end user you can solve their problems, or achieve their goals in some way.

Lena haines ANSWERS:

Good marketing and design are vital to the success of your business. It's how you maintain a good relationship with your existing and potential business customers/clients. So if its time to cut some budgetary corners, marketing should be the last thing to go.

Alexa audet ANSWERS:

Without it, your business will seldom have its own voice. Communication to the public can easily be lost in translation, and without a strategic plan in place to attract new business, you will most likely find yourself SOL. So if you are selling anything, whether it be a service or product, having a solid marketing plan and eye-catching branding is going to put you at the top of your industry and better the chances of company growth. Don't skimp on getting the word out about your business!

shane niederklein ANSWERS:

Design and marketing actually matter. It will improve your business if you know how to market yourself right and not to be afraid to spend the money it costs to do it.

JUSTIN BROWN ANSWERS:

Business owners should know that marketing and design isn’t what it used to be. It can be the missing link that will allow businesses, especially smaller ones, to push past business plateaus to grow. Marketing and design are also different in the form of increased personalization, niche targeting, and customization which isn’t always limited to companies with a large budget.
